BURNS NIGHT ONE OF THE BEST EVER

DSCN1333One of the best ever Burns Night’s held at the Club took place on Friday 30th January. 76 members and guests were piped in by piper John McFadden and his bagpipes for a traditional Burns Supper and tributes to Robert Burns given by various members of the Club. Chairman of the evening was Tom Eadon who added a touch of humour  when introducing each speaker.

The evening followed the Traditional Burns Supper order beginning with Burns’ Selkirk Grace spoken by Vic Sproul. The Haggis was piped in by the bagpipes of John McFadden and carried around the room by Chef Paul Lander. Colin Guthrie performed the “Address to the Haggis”, swirling his knife and slashing the Haggis with it. Colin’s broad lyrical Scots accent sometimes difficult for us Sassenachs to understand!  Alan Hodgkinson gave the Immortal Memory to Burns much enjoyed by the audience. Phil Millward  Toasted the Lassies in his typical chauvinistic way with his wife Sue replying on the Lassies behalf  leaving the men in no doubt who had the upper hand.

All the formalities were interspersed into a 4 course meal of Cock-a-Leekie Soup, Haggis, Tatties and Neeps, Roast Beef, Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes and Vegetables and Cranachan with Raspberries for Dessert all served by Marie Lander and her young waitresses and waiters. What a great night we had, thank you to all concerned!
