The sun shone brilliantly for Brendan Boyce and Karen Middleton at their Captains’ Drive in on Sunday. More than 100 members had attended to support them.
Driving from the first tee at 12 noon, although nervous, Karen hit a great shot 168 yards down the middle of the fairway. Brendan’s swing and follow through was great but unfortunately he topped his ball sending it 31 yards. This caused much hilarity and cheering from the onlookers but Brendan said afterwards that he was pleased he had cleared the Ladies tee.
An exchange of photographs and speeches took place in the clubhouse. The out-going Captains Dorothy Jaggers and John Squires thanked everyone for their support and wished Brendan and Karen every success for their year. Brendan and Karen both said how pleased and proud they are to be Club and Lady Captain and announced the charities they are supporting this year. Brendan is The Alzheimers Society and Karen is supporting Dove Cottage Hospice.
Once the formalities had finished everyone was invited to join Brendan and Karen for a cold buffet and drinks. It was a super day for all.
