Competitions Report to Monday 03 March 2014

Autumn Trophy — Alan Newton becomes holder of 2013/14 Autumn Trophy. 

The sixth and final round of was played on Sunday as a Better Ball Stableford.

  • 1st — 39 points Pete Poolan and Tim Buxton
  • 2nd — 38 Points on count back Alan Parkes and Darren Pick
  • 3rd — 38 points Chris Radford and Ian King.

None of the players at the top of the table were in the prizes this round so resulted in Alan Newton finishing as the overall winner of the competition over his best four from six results and he becomes the holder of the Autumn Trophy for 2013/14. Alan had led the competition throughout and topped the league table after each round despite others only being one or two points adrift of him, a worthy winner of a closely fought contest.

Seniors — On Tuesday 18th February with the course drying out after the heavy rains Melton seniors played a tricky yellow ball format. An excellent score of 71 points saw Denis Dayman, Ray Stone, Bob Luke and Seniors Captain Al Terzza take first place, with John Squires, Haydn Snow, Tom Eadon, and Kevin Selby in second place with 66 points. Tuesday 25th sees them play a 2 ball Texas Scramble.

Texas Scramble — The two ball Texas Scramble was very competitive with only 3 shots between the top three places. Winners were Club Captains, John Squires with Peter Maine on 72, followed by Senior Captain, Al Terzza, and Bob Luke on 73, and Dave Lander with Keith Loring in 3rd place with 74.

George Houghton Trophy – March 18th sees the first round of the summer aggregate competition The George Houghton Trophy.

Monday Morning Mingles – The Mingles have been well supported over the last two weeks. As their season draws to an end the competition for the overall prizes is very close, with at least four pairs in the running for the top spot. On 24th February the winners were Haydn and Liz Snow with a net 33.8, followed in second place by Denis Dayman and Alison Gatward net 34.4. Bob Luke and Chris Cook finished third with net 34.6 and they also finished with the best four ball result, with playing partners Denis Dayman and Alison Gatward net 69.0
This week’s Mingles on the 3rd March was won by Ray Stone and Cheryl Osborne net 34.2. Tom Eadon and Elaine Shelton were runners up 0.2 behind with net 34.4, and Bob Luke with Chris Cook min third place again net 35.6. The best four ball result was Ray Stone with Cheryl Osborne, Ray Foster, and Jos Habershon-Butcher net 72.6
