The first round of the Ladies’ Daily Mail Foursomes was played on Thursday 7 March at MMGC against Stanton on the Wolds Ladies. The Melton pairing were Lady President Julia Brown and ‘Drina Terzza against Stanton pairing of Diane Hardwick and Francis Tunnicliffe.
The gusting wind and rain prevented any consistent good standard of golf being played. The match was very close after 9 holes with the Melton ladies trailing only 1 down at this point. The Stanton Ladies soon took a grip of the match and won 2 of the next 3 holes putting them 3 up. This only spurred on the Melton pairing to win the next 2 and leave them again 1 down. The 16th was halved but finally the Stanton Pair won the 17th to take the match 2 and 1.
The Melton ladies thanked the Stanton ladies and wished them al the very best in the next round.
