Macmillan Trophy and the County Shield – a busy week for the ladies.

Last week’s ladies competition was the MacMillan Cancer Support Trophy, played on Wednesday 16th May and the alternate day, Saturday 12th May.  This is a Stableford competition run in two divisions.  The alternate day had  7 ladies playing (a bigger field than normal as some of the ladies were playing in the County Shield on the Wednesday) and a further 7 ladies played on the Wednesday.  The CSS on Saturday remained at 73 and the CSS on Wednesday was 76 Reduction Only.  The combined results across the two days were Division 1 Winner Jean Moulds with 35 points, runner-up ‘Drina Terzza with 29 points.  Division 2 combined winner was Sandie Normanton with 35 points and Margaret Samways runner-up with 28 point on count back.
Also on Wednesday the 16th May, 6 of our ladies represented our club at Birstall Golf Club in the County Shield competition.   This is an annual qualifiying medal competition played at a different club within the county each year and is in two divisions, silver up to 20 handicap and bronze 21 – 36 handicap.
The ladies selected to compete this year in the Silver Division were Sue Hitchman, Kathie Finn and Julia Brown.  The format for silver division is scratch and the 3 gross scores are combined to find the winning team.  The ladies selected to compete in the Bronze Division were ‘Drina Terzza, Chris Cook, and Avis Webb.  The format for the bronze division is medal, nett scores, and again all 3 scores are combined to find the winning team overall.
The prizes awarded on the day are the Scratch Shield for Silver Division(won by Lutterworth GC) and the Handicap Shield for Bronze Division (won by Luffenham Heath GC).  There are also prizes for best gross winner (Silver Division – the Ellis Trophy won by Moira Page of Glen Gorse), best nett (Bronze Division, the Vincent Trophy, won by Jane Thorpe from Kibworth),  best individual nett in Silver Division (voucher for Beth Johnson from Longcliffe GC with a nett 73) and best individual gross in Bronze Division (voucher ‘Drina Terzza Melton Mowbray GC with a gross 96).   The CSS for the day was 74.
Additionally, for our own club interest, Kathie Finn came 5th in the silver nett result with score of 74, and ‘Drina Terzza came 4th in the bronze nett result with a nett score too of 74. ‘Drina won the best individual gross with 96 on countback from Julie Jones of Cosby GC.
