Make ‘No Bones’ about it – it is in the bag.

Winner team ‘No Bones’

On Friday 25th October, MMGC Ladies’ Section hosted their annual Scary Scramble Open.  Despite the weather, the course held up enough to accommodate the 124 players due to compete.  The greens were especially good and very receptive, even if the fairways were in more wintery conditions.  The majority of players arrived in fancy dress and started off on the first tee by Club Captain, Gerry (Werewolf) Stephens.  The format was a Texas Scramble with 10% of the players’ combined handicap to be deducted from the gross score.  Players were treated drinks and cakes in the superbly decorated Halfway House manned by Chris (The Scream) Stephens and her Jersey Boys.

Fancy Dress winners ‘The Gloucester Girls’

Despite the final players reaching the Clubhouse in the gloom, there were some very competitive scores posted.  In runaway first place and defending their title from last year were ‘No Bones’ (Jackie Wilson, Carole Stothard, Kylie Walker and Wendy Stewart) from Belton with a super 66.2.  The next 3 teams all scored 70.6 so positions were decided on count back.  In second place were Denise’s Devils (Denise Waldron, Karen Middleton, Elaine Shelton and Jane Harby) of MMGC and Stanton and in third place were The Ding Bats (Andrea Smith, Lorraine Wheatley, Gill Thomas and Carolina Solano) of Erewash Valley GC.  The Golf Professional, Tony Westwood, kindly stepped in to offer the fourth place team a prize as well so The Catastrophe Clowns (Lady Captain Nancy Denny, Liz Snow, Jean Moulds and Barbara Hamston) all from MMGC were delighted.  The winners of the best fancy dress were the Gloucester Girls who were unrecognisable in their get up.

As a tribute to the visit due on Wednesday 13th November in Melton Mowbray from The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge, some of the funds raised will be donated to Children in Need.
