Melton work hard for a win in the Mixed County Foursomes

Melton Mowbray Golf Club’s first pairing out in the Mixed County Foursomes match against Market Harborough Golf Club on Wednesday 29th May were Dale Radford (hcap 6) and Leah Radford (hcap 9), who received 4 shots from their opponents, playing off handicaps +1 and 8.  The second pairing was Phil Millward (hcap 9) and ‘Drina Terzza (hcap 21), receiving 9 shots from their opponents, playing off handicaps 3 and 9.

In foursomes format, each pair selects either the lady or gent to tee off on odd or even holes and then alternate shots to complete each hole.  The ladies were selected by all pairings to take the first shots and all got off to a good start.

Conditions on the course were excellent, although the rain, which had started about an hour before the matches started, continued to fall steadily for a good part of the round.   Both matches were played in good spirit and were extremely close, resulting in a draw for both teams after 18 holes.  With light dimming, the two matches needed to play a further 3 holes each to bring the competition to a conclusion.  Those final 3 holes resulted in both Melton Mowbray’s pairings winning 1 up, resulting in a 2 up win to Melton Mowbray Golf Club.

Many congratulations to all the members involved and the next round will be the Quarter Finals, a Home match against Kilworth Springs Golf Club, on Wednesday 24th July.
