Melton Seniors took on a strong Birstall side at home and with the Seniors’ Captain Dick Chapman and John Squires losing their opening match, the team were certainly going to be up against it. There were a few matches which were very nip and tuck, but Melton soon took control of the situation by going up in all but 3 of the matches. The winning pairings for Melton were: David Wells and Nick McDonald who won 2 & 1. David Bentley and Martin Rooney won convincingly 7 & 6. Richard Haines and Ken Kirk won 1 up. Jim McQuillan and Charlie Chapman won 1 up. Owen Cook and Richard Faubert won 6 & 4. The other points came from very some very creditable halves from both Haydn Snow and Don Benzie and also Bob Luke and Ray Smith. The overall score was 6 wins to Melton and 2 wins for Birstall.
