Melton fielded only 4 pairings instead of the usual 8 as Cosby were unable to field the full compliment. The Melton team were led out by the pairing of Club Captain Glenn Price and John Webb, who completed what was a very tight, nip and tuck game which they fought bravely to obtain a very creditable half. The other scores came from the following pairings: Dave McCain and Dave Bailey won 4&3, Colin Kitchen and Mark Lewis won 5&4 and Roger Alexander and Richard Kendall also won 5&4. The result gave Melton Mowbray GC a very good win over an experienced Cosby team of 3 1/2 to a 1/2. Captain Glenn gave a special mention to his playing partner, John Webb, for filling in at the eleventh hour after a last minute player withdrawal.
